Ice Breakers League

league fwcc ice breakers2The Fort William Curling Club Ice Breakers League takes place on Wednesdays at 5:30pm. This league is open to any graduate of our Curling 101 or Adult Learn to Curl programs (or a similar learn to curl program) who want to play in a league for the beginner curler.

This is a great opportunity for our new curlers to play in a league setting with other new curlers who want to improve their skill. This helps them to become familiar with game play in an environment that is conducive to learning and helps to build their confidence before enrolling in one of our more competitive leagues. This league will have an open format, which means there are no gender restrictions. All games will be 4 ends. Each team may consist of up to 6 players, but only 4 can be on the ice at any given time. Substitutions may be made after an end, and a player can move into any position at that time.

** Note: Participants may sign up as individuals to be placed on teams, as a complete team of four to six, or as a partial team looking for one or two more players. Come join us and develop your skill!

Rules of Play

  1. The teams shall toss a coin to determine which team delivers the first stone in the first end. The winner of the toss has the choice between playing the first or second stone of the end. The team that plays the first stone of the end has choice of handle colour.
  2. All games are 4 ends (or buzzer) whichever comes first. If the two teams agree prior to the game to play less than 4, the buzzer rule must still be followed if time becomes an issue. The buzzer indicates you complete the end you're in and play 1 more.
  3. An end is considered complete once the final stone thrown in an end comes to rest.
  4. Each team may consist of 6 players, but only 4 may be on the ice at any given time.
  5. Substitutions may be made during the game, but only between ends.
  6. If a substitution is made, a player may move into any position and the team may rotate positions.
  7. Changing the rotation of play is permitted after the completion of each end.
  8. The 5 Rock Rule applies.
  9. The “No-tick” Rule is not in effect.
  10. Ties are allowed in round robin play.

Unless otherwise stated above, the general rules of play from Curling Canada should be followed where applicable:
